Style & Inspirations: I’m a fan of when paintings have dynamic colors that make your eye bounce around the composition. I receive inspiration from the people around me, especially my friends and the subject of each painting. I look for their personality and character and try to recreate the feelings I receive from them on canvas.

Art Education: I was introduced to painting and drawing by my grandfather who was an artist…Betsy Miller from Colors of the Heart Studio in Friendswood taught me the fundamentals of art through pastel. By participating in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo school art competition, I was able to attend the Western Art Academy summer program, which provided a formal intro to painting.

Best Art Advice Received: Try not to get caught up in your frustrations, and constantly step back from your painting.

Favorite Studio Music: I like to listen to fast-paced or upbeat songs so I can work at a steady speed. I’ve been listening to quite a bit of 1980s songs, especially those by Whitney Houston.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: Lately, I have become interested in some of Edward Hopper’s paintings. One painting that comes to mind is MORNING SUN, because Hopper does a really good job at capturing complex feelings of loneliness, peacefulness and reflection.

Artistic Goals: One of my goals is to improve in landscape painting…To achieve this, I have been making more time to do plein air painting.

Other Passions: I like doing something creative with my hands…[like] origami. I love how you can create seemingly infinite things from just a sheet of paper.
