Style & Inspirations: While I’m not interested in being a photographer, I’ve always been engaged with the photograph and the archive. Storytelling, kinship and relational dynamics, and the concept of American childhood are really interesting to me. So, found photography has become a central source of inspiration.

Art Education: I was lucky to learn to paint at a young age, about 13. I graduated with my bachelor’s in studio art from Skidmore College and my masters in painting from Boston University.

Best Art Advice Received: Work bigger when you can. I fought and resisted scaling up for the longest time, but it turns out, my professors were right; it provides the challenge I need for established habits.

Favorite Studio Music: When I’m really focused in the studio, I’m usually listening to a podcast. I definitely have jazz and folk on pretty often, though; Joni Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt are standbys.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: All of her work is stunning, but WALLPAPERED CORNER by Catherine Murphy gets at that thing I love about painting, where multiple timelines can all speed up and slow down to converge on one surface. And that red carpet, I mean, are you kidding me?

Artistic Goals: I’m working to become a better painter and a better educator, and I hope that my work can help lead the way to opportunities to travel and engage in new spaces and relationships.

Other Passions: I’m really into thrifting and antiquing, which I see as almost parallel play to my artistic practice. The images I paint from are all anonymous; I source them from ephemera sales and online marketplaces like eBay and Etsy.
