Jim Diamondidis, 26 COLORADO

Style & Inspirations: I am interested in creating art that is aesthetically grounded in local biodiversity and contributes to conversations about sustainability and human-environment relationships. In the last year, I’ve created a series of paintings focused on the interaction between plants and fences.

Art Education: I took painting classes as a high school student at Anne Arundel Community College, and I took painting classes as an undergraduate at Harvard College. I will be starting my MFA in painting and drawing at CU Boulder in the fall.

Best Art Advice Received: One of the best pieces of art advice came from my grandfather, who just passed away last month and was an artist based in Arizona. Simply put, he told me to “GO BIG”–big canvases, big brushes, big ideas.

Favorite Studio Music: I am still playing Cardellino’s first album from 2020 on repeat.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: This is an impossible task, but ANCIENT SOUND, ABSTRACT ON BLACK by Paul Klee or GALA CONTEMPLATING THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA WHICH AT A DISTANCE OF 20 METERS IS TRANSFORMED INTO THE PORTRAIT OF ABRAHAM LINCOLN (HOMAGE TO ROTHKO) by Salvador Dali.

Artistic Goals: I want to keep going bigger! This summer, I’ll be painting a mural in Missoula, Montana, and am excited to be working at such a large scale.

Other Passions: I love all things outdoors–hiking, backpacking, skiing, climbing, you name it!
