Logan Hudson, 27 MICHIGAN
Style & Inspirations: I am very much drawn to paintings that feel real. That does not always mean hyper-detailed. I am inspired by artists that can achieve that sense of reality while allowing some abstraction.
Art Education: I studied fine art at Northwestern Michigan College where I learned the importance of working from life. I then became involved with some local plein air groups that encouraged me to paint outdoors religiously. That along with attending several plein air workshops has been my ongoing art education.
Best Art Advice Received: “Keep your brushes moving!” – Mark Mehaffey
Favorite Studio Music: Every painting calls for a different group of songs. The titles of my paintings are often taken from songs by John Prine, Bob Dylan or Townes Van Zandt.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: If I had to pick a favorite work by an artist, I think it would have to be JOAN OF ARC by Jules Bastien-Lepage. It is such an incredible example of what can be done with oil paint in the hands of a master.
Artistic Goals: My goal in painting is to try to always improve upon the last painting. All I wish to achieve is to become better at painting and to see my subject with more honest eyes.
Other Passions: I love doing other things like mountain biking, playing soccer and camping with family. A lot of ideas are formed during these activities.
