Ryan Beverley, 28 COLORADO

Style & Inspirations: I’m inspired by the emotional qualities of light, weather and elevation [of the landscapes of the American West], and I use heavy palette knife work and expressive brushwork to create paintings that feel tactile and alive.

Art Education: In 2018, I earned a Bachelor of Arts in art and visual culture with a concentration in studio arts from Appalachian State University. While my education gave me a strong foundation, much of my growth has come through experimentation, consistent studio practice and studying the landscapes around me.

Best Art Advice Received: Let the painting look painted. That helped me move away from chasing photorealism and instead embrace texture, movement and the visible hand of the artist.

Favorite Studio Music: I gravitate toward indie folk, electronic, classic rock and atmospheric playlists that match the mood of the landscape I am painting.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: Currently, THE STILLNESS OF AUTUMN by Joe McKay. The use of texture and color just keeps me coming back.

Artistic Goals: My goal is to continue developing a recognizable visual language centered around texture and atmosphere while expanding into larger scale works and broader gallery representation throughout the West.

Other Passions: I spend as much time as possible outdoors skiing, hiking, camping and exploring the Colorado mountains.
