Sydney Lemmon, 23 TEXAS
Style & Inspirations: My work stems from my fascination with my cats Rocket and Ace. To symbolize their affection for each other I created vintage Renaissance portraits that capture their relationship and their goofiness.
Art Education: I grew up with my mom as a high school art teacher, where I was introduced to drawing, painting and pottery at an early age. I studied video game design and studio art at Texas A&M University, where I was mentored in painting by Felice House and Nick Eisele.
Best Art Advice Received: Nick Eisele told me that the paint is like butter and the canvas toast. You don’t want your brush to touch the canvas.
Favorite Studio Music: I get bored with music; however I always have to have something playing in the background. Podcasts reading Reddit stories keep me the most entertained!
Favorite Work by Another Artist: THIS IS MY WIFE SAMANTHA by Jeremy Biggers.
Artistic Goals: My dream is to make a living as an artist. So many people have told me it’s an almost impossible goal, but with time, patience, and a drive to keep learning, I believe it’s possible.
Other Passions: The second thing I’m most passionate about, behind painting, is—surprise, surprise—cats! I’m deeply fascinated by them and their facial expressions.
