Ariel Anton, 25 CALIFORNIA
Style & Inspirations: For most of my life, I have spent a lot of time around livestock. The experience of animal husbandry and learning their behavior is what inspires me to capture their unique personalities in every painting.
Art Education: I have been painting, self-taught, since age 14. However, I really honed my painting skill when I was in college pursuing my BS in agriculture science.
Best Art Advice Received: Stop painting what other people tell you they think you should paint. Instead, paint what you love. The quality of your work will be exceptionally better if you’re truly passionate about the subject matter.
Favorite Studio Music: Recently my favorite studio music has been throwback 2000s hits—it reminds me of the radio station I listened to in my childhood.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I’ve always been fascinated by the details of Norman Rockwell’s paintings. His painting THE COUNTY AGENT speaks to me the most because of the rural and agricultural history it captures.
Artistic Goals: I want to go beyond portraiture and create more backgrounds and landscapes that tell an even bigger story in my paintings.
Other Passions: I love raising chickens and aquascaping with live plants, nano-fish and freshwater shrimp. I also lift and run several times a week to keep my mind fresh and posture good for many years of painting to come!
