Caden Ferita, 22 UTAH
Style & Inspirations: My style is very much influenced by Velázquez, Käthe Kollwitz and Andrew Wyeth. They will always be in my bag of artists’ skills I admire.
Art Education: I recently completed my BFA in drawing and painting at Laguna College of Art + Design and will be going onward to receive my MFA in painting and drawing at the University of Utah.
Best Art Advice Received: Paint around the form, use more paint and squint!
Favorite Studio Music: I often listen to Bob Dylan, David Bowie, or simply open my window and listen to whatever noises are happening outside. The breeze is also nice.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: Edvard Munch’s TWO HUMAN BEINGS (THE LONELY ONES), 1896, resonates with me deeply. As a viewer I am invited to step onto the sand and share in their quiet moment of solitude.
Artistic Goals: I aim to expand my practice beyond painting and drawing to include printmaking, while also exploring new directions in my work during my MFA program and emerge with a standing in the contemporary art scene.
Other Passions: I enjoy fingerpicking my guitar, currently studying animal anatomy which is very fun to compare and relate it to human anatomy, and playing pool even though I tend to knock the 8 ball in the pockets a lot.
