Carson Rauschenberg, 25 NEW YORK

Style & Inspirations: I’m heavily influenced by the Flemish painters, Rembrandt and Jan Van Huysum as well as the Italians, Pontormo and Michelangelo. I find the Old Masters had a more pure way of looking at designing an image and observing nature.

Art Education: I studied for two years at the Grand Central Atelier in Queens, New York.

Best Art Advice Received: Be true to yourself. In a big city like New York there’s a real pressure to fit the mold and follow the trends, but by just sticking to your vision, free of outside influence is the best thing you can do for yourself and your career.

Favorite Studio Music: I really do listen to a little bit of everything, but when I’m really struggling I gravitate toward earnest songwriters, less trendy pop and more raw real experience in song form.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: SOAP BUBBLES by Jean-Siméon Chardin; simple, excellent technique and playful in nature.

Artistic Goals: My goal right now is to continue pulling back the rubber band by continuing my education. I want to be so good that once I let go of it, there’s no other option than to go as far as I want. Hosting drawing and painting workshops abroad every summer would be nice too.
