Style: I’d describe my style as realism/hyperrealism with a primary focus in contemporary Western subject matter.
Creative Spark: Five years ago, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time when a friend of mine asked me to paint a portrait of her late brother as a present to her parents. Never painting before in my life I looked up “How to Paint” on YouTube and gave them the finished piece the following week.
Art Education: After finishing that first painting I knew I wanted to pursue my artistic interests further, so the next day I searched “Art Teachers in Fort Worth” and found my teacher…I began taking two-hour weekly lessons from Laert Alexi of Studio Sabka from the spring of 2018 until 2021.
Best Art Advice Received: Laert Alexi told me early on in my lessons with him, “The last thing you do is the first thing people will see.” You can take this many different ways, but for me I use it to keep myself calm during the beginning stages of painting that I’m working on, knowing that the last thing I do (or last layer of paint) will be the first thing people will see.
Favorite Studio Music: It changes every day, but lately it’s been Marcus King, Abraham Alexander, Matthew McNeal, Charley Crockett, Sturgill Simpson, Gary Clark Jr. and Stevie Ray Vaughn
Favorite Work by Another Artist: The Night Rider by Ricardo Rodriguez.
Artistic Goal: To work with exceptionally creative and hardworking people, brands and galleries throughout my career to sharpen my skill set throughout the course of my life. To be able to have someone look at my work and know that it’s mine without searching for the signature.
Other Passions: Spending time with my family and friends, shooting photography, playing guitar, golfing and traveling.
Price Range: $2,500-$25,000
