California still-life painter

James Galindo, Clementine, oil stil-life painting

Art Education: I began my training at Laguna College of Art and Design in Laguna Beach, CA, in 2001 and graduated with a master of fine arts in painting in 2009.Style: I like my paintings to look as though a very convincing reality is emerging from a raw and loosely painted oil sketch. All of my paintings are done from life with the goal of creating an experience that will resonate with the viewer.Creative Spark: I am inspired by the play of light on my subjects. Most of my paintings are an attempt to capture the way light casts a certain mood over an image. And I try to do so while maintaining a certain degree of energy and movement but also a sense of calm.Second-Choice Career: Doctor or engineer. I am interested in knowing how things work. One Thing Most People Don’t Know About You: To save money, I lived out of my car for two years during my graduate studies. I had to shower at the gym, which was actually kind of nice because it forced me to exercise. I should do that again.Biggest Fear: Becoming more cynical with age.Pet Peeve: Personalized license plates.Future Goals: Travel the world and paint.Price Range: $2,000 to $11,000.Representation: Waterhouse Gallery, Santa Barbara, CA; Dawson Cole Fine Art, Laguna Beach, CA; www.jamesgalindo.com.
