Nick A. Erickson, 29 ARIZONA
Style & Inspirations: I’ve possessed a lifelong interest in vintage Americana and the culture of the American Southwest. Retro diners, bakeries and the multicolored, neon palette of our favorite delicacies have inspired the exploration into what I call my high-fructose universe. An enthusiasm in color and hyperrealism guide me to create artwork that appears great enough to taste.
Art Education: I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design, where I majored in animation with a minor in Illustration.
Best Art Advice Received: Always trust your instincts and keep persisting during times of adversity.
Favorite Studio Music: I am always listening to music in the realm of alternative and indie rock. My favorite musicians include Lana Del Rey, Florence + the Machine and Coldplay.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: Wayne Thiebaud’s work on simple, pop culture icons was an immediate inspiration for me. When I realized he painted shadows with blue, my perspective was forever changed.
Artistic Goals: I hope to grow into a recognizable figure in the pop art landscape. I have so many ideas I want to execute for the world to see, whether I’m creating fine art collections, large-scale murals or storytelling visuals for the entertainment industry.
Other Passions: I have always considered myself a storytelling artist. My fascination for world-building led me to earning a BFA in animation, an art form that contains all of my interests: painting, writing, the illusion of life. Regardless of whichever medium is used, I believe the creation of stories is a primal form of expressing the human condition.
