Olivia Christensen, 29 WYOMING
Style & Inspirations: I paint in oil and gouache, using both to explore scenes rooted in the American West, blending realism with a playful edge—whether it’s a pronghorn under a big sky, a vintage sign frozen in time or a rugged landscape. I’m inspired by nostalgia, local landmarks and the unexpected beauty in overlooked places.
Art Education: I earned my BFA in studio art from the University of Wyoming, where I focused on painting and developed a strong connection to Western subject matter.
Best Art Advice Received: Paint what genuinely interests you—when you’re invested in the subject, that connection comes through, and the work becomes more engaging for others too.
Favorite Studio Music: I usually listen to podcasts or audiobooks while I paint, but when I put on music, it is mostly folk and bluegrass-influenced country.
Favorite Work by Another Artist: Stephanie Hartshorn is one of my favorite artists. Her work feels timeless, and I admire how she captures character in structures that might otherwise be overlooked.
Artistic Goals: My goal is to keep building a body of work that feels honest, distinct and rooted in the American West, while growing my presence in galleries, publications and collections. I also hope to connect with people through my paintings by capturing
stories, places and moments that feel both personal and familiar.
Other Passions: I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s hiking, camping or just soaking in the landscapes with my family and our dogs. Being outside fuels my creativity and keeps me connected to the places that inspire my work.
