Tessa Tallakson, 28 ALABAMA

Style & Inspirations: I would say that my work is classical realism, and I work primarily from life not photography. I am constantly gathering inspiration from textiles, ceramics, the natural world, other paintings and life.

Art Education: I received my BFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. I consider my education to be ongoing; most recently I studied for a month at the Grand Central Atelier in New York City.

Best Art Advice Received: Making art takes guts. You have to decide the kind of artist you want to be and go out there and make it happen.

Favorite Studio Music: I love movie soundtracks to help get me in the creative mindset.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: I don’t think I can pick a favorite. I have been heavily inspired by Jules Bastien-Lepage recently.

Artistic Goals: My current goal is to start combining my love of texture and textiles with figurative work.

Other Passions: If I’m not painting, I love being in the garden or hunting for items to paint at garage sales and thrift stores.
