Zach Ross, 26 WASHINGTON

Style & Inspirations:  I am inspired by art that causes me to reflect about life and also draws me in through its beauty and compelling use of design and color. A few of the masters who have inspired me: Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Sorolla, Greg Beecham, Mark McKenna, Abigail Gutting and Albin Veselka.

Art Education: I have a bachelor’s in art from Whitworth University. I also have received brief teaching from both Beecham and McKenna.

Best Art Advice Received: Just slow down and enjoy the ride. Don’t be a perfectionist and don’t let art replace the most important things in life.

Favorite Studio Music: I used to listen to Weezer, and I would even jam out and sing sometimes. Now I work in silence mostly because I like being able to hear the lyrics and that is difficult to do while focusing on painting.

Favorite Work by Another Artist: THE CRUCIFIXION OF SAINT PETER by Caravaggio.

Artistic Goals: I hope my art expresses meaning and makes people’s lives better in some way. I want to continue to close the gap between my vision for the art I’m striving for and the art I create.

Other Passions: Faith, family and the outdoors.
