Great Falls Elks Lodge, Great Falls, MT March 16-18
The highly anticipated annual Western Art Week is the perfect context for Coeur d’Alene Galleries and Coeur d’Alene Art Auction to again present their March in Montana Auction and Dealer Show to an eager crowd of western-art collectors from around the world. Now officially 36 years running, this event in Great Falls, MT, features seven dealers showcasing fine art, sculpture, sporting art, and cowboy and Indian collectibles. Works are from mostly historic artists, as well as 11 contemporary artists: Colt Idol, Don Oelze, Abigail Gutting, Jessica L. Bryant, Kira Fercho, Luke Frazier, Chip Jones, Tobias E. Sauer, Mark Susinno, Brooke Wetzel, and Kenneth Yarus.
The weekend kicks off with a Dealer Show and Auction Preview on Thursday, March 16. Auction-item viewing for the more than 700 works on display is open the morning and afternoon of Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18. The energetic, fast-paced live auctions then take place at 11 a.m. on those days. All events are free and open to the public.
“The highlight of this year’s show is our collection of Native American items,” says managing partner Ron Nicklas. “Many great pieces from the late 1800s are sure to get collectors’ attention. We’ve always set a high bar for the weavings we offer, and this year we’ve raised that bar. We have several ‘Montana Lodge’-sized pieces that collectors and designers normally don’t have the opportunity to see and purchase. These items are best viewed in person, which is another great reason to be at the sale.
“March in Montana is known for coming up with hard-to-find items, and this year is no exception,” Nicklas continues. “Five rare woodcarvings by John L. Clarke, Montana’s most iconic carver, will be a fan favorite. And we’re featuring a large collection of William Standing’s work, as well as other artists from the period whose impressive work helped to pave the way for the Native artists of today.”
In addition to the live bidding on March 17 and 18, remote bidding is available through the March in Montana app and on www.iCollector.com. Telephone proxy bidding and absentee bidding are also available for the same buyer’s premium as the live bidder’s premium. —Allison Malafronte
