RICK HODGINS
Where do you live and work? I live with my beautiful wife on Lake Travis in Austin, TX.What are your favorite subjects to depict? I enjoy painting still lifes and landscapes in the style of the old masters.Where did you study art? I studied art in various workshops in the United States and Europe. I have had some great mentors, specifically artists Robert Johnson, David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Jeff Legg, and others. I am fortunate to be on the teaching faculty at the Fredericksburg Artists’ School here in Texas. What is your proudest art accomplishment? My most proud moments are the ones that happen when a viewer or collector connects with one of my paintings. When you’re not creating art, what else do you enjoy doing? I have had a varied life and education, getting my degree in electrical engineering at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. I worked as an adviser to the Navy on the design of navigation systems for nuclear submarines and took them on sea trials. I later started and owned a manufacturing company, which had its challenges. Playing the trumpet in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic had its fun times.Where can collectors find your work? www.rickhodgins.com.
WILLIAM CARRINGTON
Where do you live and work? I live and work in my home studio in San Antonio, TX, which I share with my wife, Caroline Korbell Carrington, who is a painter. What are your favorite subjects to depict? My favorite subjects are native Texas wildlife. I enjoy exaggerating the animals’ characteristics to create movement and humor. How would you describe your style? Humorous and loose. It’s not super detailed—I am more interested in capturing movement and emotion than in being anatomically accurate.Where did you study art? I never studied sculpture but did get a graphic communications degree from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University) in 1989.What is your proudest art accomplishment? Seeing my daughter graduate from art school is the best. She attended Savannah College of Art and Design. I am also simply proud to be making a living doing what I love to do!When you’re not creating art, what else do you enjoy doing? I am a huge outdoor enthusiast. I love to hunt and fish and just be outside. Sharing the outdoors with my wife is probably my favorite pastime.Where can collectors find your work? SARAH HOLLOWAY SMITH
Where do you live and work? I live in the pretty green hills of rural Texas. What are your favorite subjects to depict? I like to paint everything, but I have a special love for all that Mother Nature provides. How would you describe your style? I would say my painting style is impressionism with some “tooth.” My pencil work can be tighter and more realistic.Where did you study art? I studied at Edinburgh College of Art and at Heriot-Watt University, both of which are located in Edinburgh, Scotland. What is your proudest art accomplishment? I volunteer with a Presbyterian organization. In early 2021, I gave a Zoom class to young children of single mothers from abused backgrounds who wanted to make Valentine’s Day cards. We collaged paper hearts of all sizes onto cards with glitter. The faces of the kids as they created, and the faces of their moms—who pretended not to know what was being made—were priceless. Art really does heal. When you’re not creating art, what else do you enjoy doing? I like working outside, whether that be gardening, trimming trees, or planting. I also enjoy walking, biking, and swimming.Where can collectors find your work? Lost Pines Art Center, Bastrop, TX; Burlap Ranch Mercantile, Tomball, TX; www.sarahhollowaysmith.com.
JODY MARTIN
Where do you live and work? I live In Kyle, TX, just south of Austin, where our home backs up to a meadow with trees, deer, and wildflowers. What are your favorite subjects to depict? Definitely people. I love to paint landscapes and still-life subjects, too, especially when the lighting is dramatic or when the setting inspires me or makes me grin. Small-town Texas and everyday people make the most intriguing subjects. How would you describe your style? Contemporary impressionism.Where did you study art? My art education began in the studio of my mother, Conny Martin, a professional artist who was a pioneer in the Lubbock art scene. I graduated from Abilene Christian University and went on to study under artists Emily Guthrie Smith and Daniel Greene. Greene introduced me to pastels, and I learned so much from him about painting people. What is your proudest art accomplishment? Plein-air painting with my mom was the best experience. And being recognized as a signature member of the Pastel Society of America was definitely a high point. When you’re not creating art, what else do you enjoy doing? I love to spend time with my amazing family and friends and my very entertaining grandchildren. I enjoy music, movies, and teaching art.Where can collectors find your work? www.jodymartinstudio.com.

We have so many different landscapes to be inspired by, from beaches to Hill Country, plains to forests. What are your favorite subjects to depict? I find it fun to paint old structures that have odd angles and have grown into their environment. How would you describe your style? Contemporary impressionism.Where did you study art? Baylor University and Texas Tech University. In the last six years, I have taken workshops from many talented artists as well as classes at the Glassell School of Art in Houston. What is your proudest art accomplishment?
